JUMP SHIP SUMUGAN SIVANESAN with WT NORBERT |
Jump Ship Jump Ship plays on the tradition of sailor tattoos to recall a history of South Asians at sea. As boat loads of
refugees attempt to enter Australia, the piece recounts the decolonizing role of lascars and the effect of Indian dissent on the European imagination. It marks tribute to the misfits, misanthropes and mutineers that flung fouling ropes into the course of colonial progress. The performance took place on February 11, 2010 at Gaffa, Sydney. |
