DHAM DHAM is a programme to collectively learn digital music production using free, open source or otherwise accessible tools. It evolved from a two day workshop, "Thaalam Riddim Reapers" [linktr.ee], at Dinacon Digital Naturalism Conference 2022, DreamSpace Academy, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, during a period marked by fuel and energy shortages due to economic mismanagement, and as popular uprising ousted the president. Devised by Sumugan Sivanesan this workshop was delivered in collaboration with Lucinda Dayhew, Brendy Hale and Ashlin Aronin. In February 2024, Luci and Sumugan returned to DreamSpace to produce "Dham Dham Riddim" with Dinoj M and SajaS, a nine day digital music production "bootcamp" with support from Goethe-Institut. The results from this workshop were published in August 2024 as the EP Dham Dham Riddim on Bandcamp. In May 2025 Sumugan held a four hour introductiory session “DHAM DHAM Basics" [Instagram] at _subkontinent Berlin. He then traveled to Bali, Indonesia, in June for Dinacon 2025 to co-organise an instrument building research node, "DHAM DHAM Sonified Plastics" alongside Dinoj and Luci. An eight day intensive, “DHAM DHAM Method” will run at 90mil Berlin, July 2026. Sumugan is continuing to develop workshops and programmes with Dinoj and DreamSpace Academy.

The Dham Dham Riddim [Bandcamp] EP is the result of workshops led by Berlin-based artists Sumugan Sivanesan and Lucinda Dayhew, supported by the Goethe Institute, in collaboration with DreamSpace Academy. Utilizing sounds and samples collected from the local environment, participants explored the rich soundscapes of Batticaloa, blending traditional and modern elements to create eight unique tracks.
